Then: Without the San Antonio River, there would have been no Pearl Brewery. Its clear spring water was the most important ingredient for the Brewery's well-regarded beer. A branch of the Spanish Colonial Acequia Madre returned to the River near the South River Building. And, beneath Pearl Brewery’s Plaza lies the original San Antonio River bed. Early in the 20th Century, the Brewery filled in a river bend that looped deep into the property, for flood control and to create additional acres of usable property.
