The Brewery was built on the banks of the San Antonio River in 1883 to turn its clear, cool water into refreshing cold beer. Today, the River is still vital to Pearl Brewery, creating a quiet, lush oasis in a profoundly urban environment.

With 1100 feet of urban riverfront, Pearl Brewery is dedicated to preserving and improving this precious natural resource. Pearl's stretch of riverbank is a part of the San Antonio River Improvements Project [Urban Segment of the Museum Reach]. The project, expected to begin construction May 2007, will double the length of San Antonio's Riverwalk, providing public access to this part of the river for the first time.

Previously inaccessible due to steep banks and overgrown vegetation, the improved river channel will be stabilized and become the nothernmost navigable channel of the river, culminating in a wide Turning Basin for the city's renowned river barges. At the nothern end of the Basin, a gently sloping waterfall will bring to mind the 1960s Pearl Beer tagline "From the Land of 1100 Springs." The banks of our scenic river will also feature a planned ampitheatre rising from a stage/dock that extends into the water.
